About the Carnival

The first Wootton Bassett Carnival took place in 1971 and was founded by Chris Wannell (left) and the Scarrott family, with the aim of bringing the community together, have lots of fun and support local causes/groups/clubs.  The first Carnival Committee was formed by a group of St Ivel workers led by Chris who called upon the invaluable Scarrott family knowledge to organise the planned events.

The Scarrott family is still at the heart of the organisation today, providing a critical link to both local businesses and the RWB community.

Carnival Committee members and on-the-day team helpers are all volunteers, without which the carnival would not happen. We are always looking for new volunteers for the team, including procession marshals on the day. You do not need to have any prior experience so if you have any time to spare and would like to help, please get in contact by clicking below and we'll be in touch to answer any questions you may have.

All money collected is used to fund the running of the Carnival. Our generous sponsors donate a large part of this and the rest is raised during our procession and through our other events and collections during the carnival period.  We give our heartfelt thanks to everyone for this on-going financial support.

100% of any profit generated is donated back to the community.
